About An Atlanta Botanical Garden Wedding

The Atlanta Botanical Garden is one of the most renowned in the country and has become an important part of the city’s cultural identity. It’s an urban oasis that provides an escape from the concrete and stone of Atlanta, allowing families and horticulture-inspired individuals to reconnect with nature and enjoy the fresh air.

The Garden includes 30 acres of outdoor acreage adorned with beautiful, themed gardens, including an award-winning Children’s Garden and the beautiful Storza Woods, complete with a unique Canopy Walk. Take in views of the Atlanta skyline as you wander their paths and trails, discovering new plants and flowers amongst exhibits of beautiful sculpture art, some of which are permanent and some that rotate seasonally.

Details of the Wedding Grounds

The Atlanta Botanical Garden has many spaces to host your dream wedding. Whether you envision an indoor/outdoor event or prefer to keep everyone dancing under the stars, you can truly put together the wedding of your dreams at the Garden.

It makes sense to host an outdoor ceremony at the Botanical Garden. Why wouldn’t you want to take advantage of their spectacularly curated spaces and gorgeous wildlife? Their most popular ceremony site is the Rose Garden, adorned with brightly colored roses and stretches of lush green lawn. If you time your wedding in May/June or September/October, you’ll find yourself amidst the peak bloom of the roses, but the Rose Garden is just as romantic any time of year. This space is also one of their largest, with room for up to 200 seated guests.

If you’re looking for a ceremony space with more woodsy vibes, Storza Woods is one of the last remaining old-growth forests in Atlanta. It’s a more rustic alternative to the Rose Garden and features four spaces for your vow exchange. The Woods also feature a beautiful modern piece by internationally renowned artist Dale Chihuly, a modern twist in a more forested space that includes paths lined with bushy hydrangeas. Depending on which space you choose, the guest capacity varies, so be sure to check details with their events team!

Another outdoor ceremony option is the Robinson Gazebo, with dramatic views of the Atlanta skyline overlooking Piedmont Park. You and your guests will walk along a color Flower Walk until you reach the pavilion-style gazebo, which you can adorn with unique décor for a beautiful customized aesthetic. This space is perfect for weddings with up to 100 guests.

Indoor Options

For your ceremony, you can hire one of their reliable tent vendors for an outdoor affair. Still, they also have plenty of indoor space perfect for a weather-controlled celebration. Day Hall is the Garden’s largest reception space, with room for up to 200 people, high ceilings, and whimsically elegant floral-inspired light fixtures. It has plenty of windows that let in beautiful light, views of the surrounding gardens, and many opportunities to add a personalized touch to the space. Add a dance floor for a lively party vibe. When your guests are ready to catch their breath, they can get some fresh air on the adjacent Lanier Terrace, Levy Parterre, and the Cox Courtyard.

Another indoor reception option is Mershon Hall, a Craftsman-inspired space with large double Palladian doors that fill the room with natural light. It has elegant lighting, rich bamboo floors, and a built-in granite credenza ideal for displaying photos or serving your wedding cake. With room for up to 80 people, it’s a slightly more intimate space with plenty of elegance and room to incorporate your personal style.

Of course, suppose your focus is mostly food over dancing. In that case, you can also host your reception in the Garden’s full-service restaurant, Longleaf, for a plant-to-plate meal in an airy, elegant space with a rooftop patio and spectacular views!

Elopements at Atlanta Botanical Garden

The Garden isn’t just for big weddings; it’s also the perfect place for an elopement or a Micro Wedding. Several ceremony sites are designated solely for small weddings, including the Japanese Garden, a small but exquisite space with irises and azaleas, color-changing maples, and an overall reverence for nature. The space is reserved for weddings of up to 10 people standing, perfect for an elopement.

There’s also the Fragrance Garden, a beautiful courtyard tucked between the Fuqua Conservatory and Orchid Center with plenty of fresh-smelling herbs, gorgeous flowers, and a small reflecting pond. This is the perfect space for small weddings with up to 20 people standing.

The Atlanta Botanical Garden offers a ceremony-only wedding package for those looking for a beautiful place to simply exchange vows. Designed for weddings of up to 25 people, the package includes access to several garden spaces, the set-up of chairs, and a Prosecco toast and cupcakes for your guests following the ceremony.

However, if you are considering a small wedding but want to wow your guests with something special, consider a cooking experience in the Edible Garden and Outdoor Kitchen. You and your guests can participate in an interactive event and work together to create your first meal as a married couple!
