Whether you’re just starting out, changing what you photograph, or you’re a seasoned pro, styled shoots are a great way to get out there, meet professionals, network and create content you can use for your business.
Not all styled shoots are the same. Be sure to attend one where there are reviews or you know someone that has attended and can vouch for the planner. Nothing is more frustrating than attending a paid shoot, where the final product and experience do not match the vision board. I consider styled shoots and investment in your business. As the saying, goes, you get what you pay for, styled shoots are no excpetion.
The first reason you should attend a styled shoot is you get to create beautiful curated content for you to use for your business. Maybe you are switching your niche, you want to get into weddings more so you need more wedding content. Maybe you want to change your brand, attend a shoot that will showcase the work you want to bring into your business. Or maybe your just starting out and you need work to show for your website and instagram.
The second reason is networking. I am still friends with many of the vendors I worked with at my first styled shoot that I held. You can give your clients vendor recommendations from vendors you have actually worked with and have images to show them! Vendors may refer you to potential clients! It’s a win, win!
The third reason is meeting other photographers. Having a community of photographers is vital and makes life a lot less lonely. Sitting behind a computer can be lonely and it’s nice to make connections. You may need a second photographer or and associate photographer if your sick. You may need advice or help, having a community of professionals is vital for your business and mental health. The community over competition mindset is one a lot of photographers adhere to. Find your group and grow together. Georgia has one of the best networking groups, from what other photographers have said when they move out of state!
