Arabia Mountain Park Elopement

Table of Contents

You don’t have to travel out west for a picturesque mountainside elopement; with Arabia Mountain only 30 minutes from Atlanta, you can have a unique and spectacular elopement right here in Georgia!

Arabia Mountain Park is part of over 40,000 acres of protected land that will make you feel lightyears away from the city. Its unique monadnocks rock formations provide a surreal sci-fi-esque environment for a secluded elopement, although there are plenty of other beautiful and wild spaces ideal for a beautiful and intimate vow exchange. Keep reading to learn what makes an Arabia Mountain Park elopement an incredible celebration of love!

Logistics for Your Arabia Mountain Park Elopement

Arabia Mountain Park is a beautiful place for an elopement that will make you feel like you’re literally on top of the world - and maybe the only people in the world, if you time things right!

The first thing you’ll need to do is get your marriage license. If you live in Georgia (or at least one of you does), you can apply for a license at any county’s probate court. You’ll need to bring in a few forms of official documentation and ID, but you can easily find a list of what you’ll need on this website here. If you’re traveling from out of state, you’ll need to visit the probate court in the county where you are getting married. For Arabia Mountain Park, that would be DeKalb County.

Additionally, just to be safe, you’ll want to contact the right people at Arabia Mountain Park to ensure you’ve acquired any necessary permits before your elopement. Specific locations throughout the park require special permissions, sometimes for elopements and other times for photography, and while you may not end up needing any permits at all for what you’re planning, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Regardless of who you bring with you to your elopement (family, friends, officiant, photographer), be sure to practice the ethic of Leave No Trace, meaning that you’re careful to pick up anything you’ve brought with you as if you were never there, and being mindful and respectful of the area’s natural and unique environment and wildlife that calls Arabia Mountain Park home.

How to Get Married in Arabia Mountain Park

You can host a beautiful elopement any time of year based on what you envision. Still, there are a few things to note regarding an outdoor Arabia Mountain Park elopement.

While winter is great for fewer tourists milling around, the season can typically be cold and rainy, making some locations inaccessible. I’m not saying it can’t be done, just that it wouldn’t hurt to have a plan B at a nearby Airbnb.

The spring often features beautiful blooms and signs of fresh life, but not always. March and April at higher elevations can often still look reminiscent of winter, with bare trees that haven’t pushed their leaves through yet. But the beautiful weather and fewer tourists may make it worth a spring elopement!

While summertime may conjure up feelings of sunshine, warm breezes, and lots of outdoor activities, it’s the south, ya’ll. It gets uncomfortably hot and humid, especially in July and August, especially in Arabia Mountain Park, where there isn’t much shade on the monadnocks. These months are better saved for indoor elopements.

Fall is the ideal wedding season because of its moderate temperatures, beautiful changing leaves, and picturesque skies. Just keep in mind that this is the perfect time for many tourists to visit, so you may be fighting some larger crowds if you pick weekends or evenings for your elopement. Try to elope on a weekday and note that sunrise light can be as beautiful as sunset without all the extra crowds!
